Making a plan your own

Every itinerary keeps the same skeleton: one headline sight early, one neighbourhood in the afternoon, one booked dinner. If you are not a museum person, swap the morning sight for a market. If you travel with children, cut the evening and add a park. If the weather turns, Bologna's porticoes and Copenhagen's museums absorb rain best, Seville's palaces and Lisbon's viewpoints the least.

Book timed-entry tickets one to two weeks ahead for the Alcázar, Seville Cathedral, Jerónimos Monastery and Prague Castle on spring and autumn weekends. Restaurants in Copenhagen and fado houses in Lisbon fill quickest. Everything else can wait until you arrive.
